Active Seniors

is a ‘not for profit’ Social Enterprise delivering exercise classes for anyone post retirement who wants to become more physically active. We want to promote the role of physical activity in keeping older people fit and healthy both in body and mind, so why not ‘Get up and go’ to a class at a venue near you.

Active Seniors is run by Kim Sproston and Angela Amphlett who are highly qualified exercise specialists with years of experience and are trained to deal with a range of health and mobility problems. Both are listed with the ‘Register of Exercise Professionals’ as level 4 Postural Stability Instructors and are also BACR IV trained (British Association of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation). Kim and Angela are also qualified Tai Chi for Health instructors. Exercise can be adapted to suit individuals and clients receive guidance and help to get the most out of the exercises. Classes are £30 for a six week term.

Strength and Balance classes

Particularly beneficial to those diagnosed with osteoporosis or for those who have experienced a fall or deterioration in their balance, but are also suitable for anyone who is still active and wants to stay that way! Classes are designed to increase flexibility, joint stability, balance, coordination, agility, muscular strength and cardiovascular endurance. The workout combines balance exercises and resistance (strength) training with plenty of friendly fun. There are classes to suit a range of abilities and some include elements of tai chi style movements to improve balance.

Happy Hearts classes

Ideal for those people who wish to improve their aerobic endurance and feel fitter. The classes are suitable for people who have controlled heart conditions and for those with stable hypertension, asthma, diabetes etc. but are equally perfect for those that are reasonably able but would like to maintain a healthy heart.

Tai Chi for Health

(arthritis and falls prevention) is a modernised and adapted version of the traditional form, designed by medical professionals and tai chi experts. It offers a safe, evidence based alternative and it provides all the benefits of tai chi in a manageable form. It is great for people with arthritis as well as many other controlled health conditions. It’s relaxing and has many health benefits including reducing stress and anxiety, improving balance and building strength.
